The goat was one of the first animals to be domesticated by man. They play a significant role in producing food for the
human population of the world and are to be found in almost every country. There is still some stigma attached to
keeping goats and they are often referred to as the poor man's cow.
In the UK goats have been kept for milk
production for many years but it was in the late 1800's that a greater degree of interest was shown in developing
breeds and improving their potential production. It was not until the 1970's that goats milk became widely available
and it can now be bought in most supermarkets and health food shops along with goat milk yoghurts and many
different types of cheese.
The Naturemade Herd was established in 1966 and is now
organic and managed in
a most 'welfare friendly' regime. Feed quality is carefully monitored to ensure that the goats remain vegetarian and
highly productive and that the milk maintains a clean fresh taste with no 'goaty' taint. Maximum use is made of
homoeopathic remedies but where necessary medication is administered milk withholding
times are scrupulously
observed. Our milk is therefore suitable for vegetarians and/or those on homoeopathic regimes.
Whole milk and Semi-skimmed milk is available. |
